The words “variety of tools, approaches, and models” appear repeatedly in the 2023 Virginia Standards of Learning. The number line is explicitly mentioned 14 times in 2nd-5th grade. In this interactive session, we will explore how the open and closed number line model can be utilized for building number sense and computational skills of whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Together, we will explore how the number line progresses through elementary content. Instead of students having to learn “one more thing,” they just need to learn “THE thing,” and that thing, is the number line!
