Numerous studies have shown a strong correlation between a student’s self-efficacy and mindset toward learning mathematics, mathematics achievement, and the influence of adults they interact with who may pass down negativity toward math. While our teaching practices have adapted, and an abundance of time has been spent on learning about and implementing new standards, more support is needed to help families understand these shifts. This session will provide practical strategies for engaging families in learning and talking about mathematics, positively participating in their child’s learning, and supporting academic success, with the overarching goal being an increase students’ self-confidence and achievement in mathematics.
